Biography:

Dr. W. Andrew Robinson, Ph.D., M.A., B.A., A.A.S., CIDO, COT lives in Charleston, Illinois, with his wife of thirty-one years, Wanda Kay. Dr. Robinson teaches full-time for the Department of Communication Studies in the College of Arts and Humanities at Eastern Illinois University. Dr. Robinson frequently teaches online graduate courses for the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign as well through the Illinois Online Network Master of Online Teaching Program. He received the Roger Whitlow Award for Excellence in Teaching from the School of Continuing Education at EIU in 2008. Dr. Robinson earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Professional Studies in Education and two graduate certificates—Certificate of Online Teaching and Certificate of Instructional Design for Online Learning—from Capella University in Minneapolis, MN; a Master of Arts degree in Speech Communication and Bachelor of Arts degree, with a psychology minor, from EIU; and an Associate of Applied Sciences Degree from Southwest Virginia Community College. Dr. Robinson’s two main research interests are online education and religious coping. For example, he has studied “Positive or Negative Valence Toward Computer-Mediated or Online Teaching and Learning Among Higher Education Faculty” and the topic of his most recent research “Keepin' the Faith: Crisis Management in Missionary Populations” was a joint venture with another colleague within the Department of Communication Studies. Dr. Robinson is a life-long learner who applies integrative teaching and learning in his courses. Whether courses taught by him be delivered web-based, web-enhanced, or in a traditional classroom, he utilizes constructivist and collaborative teaching and learning strategies to enhance students’ learning experiences. William Arthur Ward said, "The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires." This exemplifies Dr. W. Andrew Robinson’s teaching philosophy and practice.
