A native of Bologna, in Northern Italy, I received both undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Bologna (the oldest in the world!). I have been teaching Italian language at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign since 1989, and I became its Director of Basic Italian Language Instruction in 2009.

Over the last several years, I have developed a special interest in online teaching and learning. I have designed and taught two blended courses and two fully-online course for my language program, which I also regularly teach.

ION courses have been instrumental in my gaining the competency needed to successfully navigate the online environment. In summer 2012, I received my Master Online Teacher certificate from the Illinois Online Network, and in October 2013 I completed all requirements towards becoming a Certified Online Learning Administrator.

On the personal side, I am the mother of three adult children, two of them with disabilities. I have a passion for animals and currently own nine pets: six pug dogs, a rabbit, a guinea pig, and a frog.
