Rodger Hergert
Hi there! I'm Rodger Hergert and by day I'm a mild-mannered Mathematics
Professor at Rock Valley College
in Rockford, IL. In 1998, I found myself being named the Chair of the
RVC Distance Learning Committee due to having taught one class via two-way
video at another college in my previous position as a part-time nomad.
After the initial shock wore off, I spent the next several months learning
as much as I could about all facets of distance learning (especially online
learning).
As a result, I've attended numerous conferences on distance learning,
completed the Master Online Teacher Certificate through the Making the
Virtual Classroom a Reality program, and taught online courses at Rock
Valley myself. Now I'm totally fascinated by the whole concept of online
education and that's why I've joined the team at ION!
In my spare time, I try to figure out how I have any spare time since
I have two very active little boys (ages 7 & 10).
I feel strongly that as community colleges, we owe it to our students
to provide as many educational opportunities as we can and offering classes
online helps achieve this in a big way. Please feel free to contact me
if you have any questions, concerns, comments about our class or online
learning in general.
