We understand that many people enjoy some level of anonymity in their online courses. Beyond your name and a short background bio statement as an orientation exercise, you are not required to divulge anything that you do not wish to divulge while taking an MVCR course.
Disclosure to Third Parties
All personal information collected on the MVCR Website is considered confidential and is not disclosed to third parties outside of research purposes wherein all identifying information is removed and information is relayed as a collective and not individually. ION adheres to all FERPA requirements including additional regulations as set forth by the University of Illinois. Written and signed consent must be obtained by the student before any student records can be released.
To achieve full benefit of participation, MVCR courses require approximately 5-10 hours per week for completion of assignments. This time is mainly spent reading online materials, communicating with colleagues via e-mail and course forums, and completing projects. Inability to meet this time requirement will reduce a participant's benefit from the course, or, in some cases, fulfillment of assignments needed to complete and receive credit for the course. See grading below.
We have designed the courses in the MVCR program to require that a student login to the course at least 2-3 times per week, as outlined in that particular course syllabus. Failure to meet this minimum requirement can result in a reduction of grade. All credit options in MVCR courses will grade participation. Such grading is usually heavily weighted towards an active participation requirement.
MVCR courses cannot be audited. Participation is an expectation in all courses.
Only two MVCR courses may be concurrently enrolled in unless permission is obtained from ION at email@example.com.
ION/MVCR faculty are guided by the University of Illinois Student Code.
Participants taking MVCR courses through the Illinois Online Network for Continuing Education Units receive grades. In addition, to receive CEU credit, participants must complete all assignments at 80% proficiency or above.
All students taking MVCR courses for academic credit through the University of Illinois will receive a grade for all assignments and the course. Grades in all MVCR courses include both formative assessments including participation and timeliness, as well as summative assessments on all assignments and projects. While some courses have exams, all courses have discussion and projects as the main graded components. Every course provides rubrics for main assignments to assist students in their completion. The grades, however, are up to the discretion of the instructor. They may adjust rubrics and grades as the course requires. If you have a problem with grading or wish to discuss a grade with an administrator, please contact the program coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Participation and Grading
You must log into your course(s) at least once per week. Failure to login at least once per week without prior notification of the instructor may result in removal from the course. You will only be able to return to the course after contacting the instructor and getting approval for re-entry. Your grade during such circumstances will likely diminish.
If you are removed from a course for any reason a "withdrawn" is entered into the student record. All students removed from a course by an instructor or an administrator for reasons such as lack of participation may request re-entry into a course by contacting the instructor. Re-entry is at the discretion of the instructor, although you may appeal the decision by contacting email@example.com.
If you are taking the course for academic credit through the University of Illinois at Springfield, you must additionally officially withdraw through the University or a grade of F may be recorded.
To withdraw from a course, go to the Registration page and select the "withdraw from the course" button.
Withdrawing when enrolled for CEU's
If your registration has not yet been approved, your withdrawal is complete. If your registration has been approved, the ION office is notified of your wish to be removed from the course.
Withdrawing when enrolled for academic credit through UIS
If you are taking the course for academic credit through the University of Illinois at Springfield, you must officially withdraw through the University or a grade of F may be recorded on their system. The withdrawal deadline is that of the University of Illinois at Springfield.
To be consistent with the University Code of Conduct practice of Respect, we consider hateful, flaming, and person-directed derogatory comments to be unacceptable behavior in MVCR courses. Parties involved in such behavior may be immediately removed from the course at the discretion of the instructor. Depending on the nature of the incident, the individual may be barred from future participation in MVCR courses at the discretion of the MVCR staff. This determination is made on a case-by-case basis and ION and MVCR reserve the right to change our policy at any given time without prior notification.
Participants in MVCR courses retain copyright of all assignments and posts completed by that individual; however, all materials may be used for educational purposes within the given course. In group projects, only the portion of the work completed by that individual is copyrighted by that individual. MVCR and ION may request that your materials be shared with future courses, but such sharing will only be done with your consent. The information that you submit during a course may; however, be used for the purposes of administrative data collection and research. No personal information is retained without the student's consent.

Written work, including, but not limited to, discussion postings, essays, reflections, designs and critiques, should be a product of a participant's efforts and not copied from a colleague, from materials found on the Internet, from books, journal articles, or from other sources.
Participants will receive a failing grade for any submitted assignments that are identical or are substantially identical to previously published work, and may be dismissed from the course with a failing grade.
