There are two different ways to enroll in a MVCR course depending
on your needs. Each method involves a different set of procedures and different
fees. You must choose one or the other, not both. Credit can not be transferred
between CEUs and Academic Credit hours after a course is completed; however,
you may take a course twice if you want both.
Academic Credit through the University of Illinois at Springfield
OR
Continuing Education Units through MVCR
Why enroll for academic credit?
- As a course in your degree program
- To earn a second degree
- To use the professional development stipend available to faculty at
some institutions
- To use credit courses for lane change and advancement for faculty
and staff
To enroll in a course through UIS, do NOT enroll
in the courses through this Web site. Instead, for admission to
UIS courses, determine your
appropriate category below and follow the instructions. Non-Degree Seeking Students
STEP 1 - All students in MVCR courses,
regardless of enrollment method, must create a MyMVCR account. This account
is required for course tracking, course
orientations, student orientation surveys, and course evaluations. Sign
up for an account using the link at the top right of this screen and then
return to this page for the next steps.
STEP 2 - Students must complete an application and submit it to the Office
of Admissions and Records. See http://www.uis.edu/admissions/applyNow.html
STEP 3 - Decide which course(s) you want to register for. MVCR courses are
400 and 500 level courses in the Computer Science (CSC) and Teacher Education
Program (TEP) departments at UIS. A full listing of online courses through
UIS can be found in their online
course catalog.
The following MVCR Courses are commonly offered through UIS. For
courses offered with multiple sections, you do NOT take both courses.

STEP 4 - All MVCR courses are enrolled With Permission of Instructor
(WPI). In the case of MVCR classes, the WPI is mainly required to assure
that enrolling
students are aware of the irregular meeting dates and how to contact
ION for more information. To receive a WPI that will permit enrollment,
the student
must send and email MVCR WPI request and provide the following information:
Your UIN #
(If you do not know your UIN#, you can visit the University
of Illinois ID card Web site and click on "Tell me my University ID Number" )
Title of course in which you want to register
UIS Course Code (e.g. TEP 501 A)
UIS Reference # (e.g. 11867)
If you have any questions, you can contact the ION coordinator:
E-mail: mvcr-registration@uillinois.edu
Office phone: (217) 333-4393
STEP 5 - The final step to start a
course is to register through UIS for the course.
Register via web: http://www.uis.edu/registration/. If you are new to the UIS system, you will need to follow the directions for creating a NetID and password in order to register.
STEP 6 - Pay your bill at UIS
Information about tuition and payment can be found at http://www.uis.edu/registration/tuition/
NOTE: Appropriate Fee Waivers will be applied AFTER registration for MVCR
students.
Other helpful information can be found at http://otelportal.uis.edu/.
The non-degree student generally will not be encouraged to take
more than four hours (1 unit) each term. The graduate non-degree student
will be asked
for clarification of his/her status before exceeding 12 hours (3 units).
Most MVCR courses are worth 0.5 Units or 2 credit hours.
Graduate Applicants
Note that MVCR is not a program within the University of Illinois at Springfield.
The courses are offered for credit within the Teacher Education Program and
Department of Computer Sciences, and may be counted for a degree within those
departments and others. For more information on which courses count for credit
in your degree program, you will need to check with your department.
To enroll as a graduate student at the University of Illinois at Springfield,
students must complete an application to the university and have official
transcripts submitted to the Office of Enrollment Services. Full admission
to graduate studies may be granted to students who have earned a baccalaureate
degree with a minimum undergraduate grade-point average of 2.50 on a 4.00
scale and who have met all specific program requirements and prerequisite
courses. Programs may require higher grade-point averages. Programs may grant
conditional admission to persons with less than the required GPA with the
additional requirement of completing eight semester hours of courses at UIS
(exclusive of prerequisites) with a grade-point average of at least 3.00.
If conditional admission is granted, the program will specify which courses
must be completed.
International Students
The admission requirements for Undergraduate/Graduate applicants also apply
for international students with the addition of the following requirements.
Applicants applying from abroad whose native language is not English must
submit official international TOEFL scores as part of the English Proficiency
Admission Requirements. All students whose native language is not English
are required to take an English proficiency test on campus the week before
registration. Test results do not affect admission to UIS but will be used
to determine the need for an English as a Second Language (ESL) class. Applicants
who have earned an associate's degree or higher in the United States with
a GPA of 2.00 or better on a 4.00 scale are not required to submit international
TOEFL scores.
For more information on full-time student admissions, refer to the UIS
Admission Requirements.
When applying through UIS, all policies and procedures of the University
of Illinois will apply.
Another option is to take MVCR courses for Continuing Education
Units. All procedures, fees, etc. listed specifically
for this Web site apply to this option. Anyone
with a Master's degree or other terminal professional degree is eligible to enroll in MVCR courses by this method. Further, we will ask for your institutional affiliation as part of our registration process.
Before you enroll
in your first MVCR course, you must create a MyMVCR account. This account
provides
you with a customized view of the MVCR courses in which you are currently
enrolled as well as those completed previously. It is also required to
register in future courses and to access course orientation materials,
grade reports, and our student
survey. This is a one-time process. If you enroll in additional MVCR
courses in the future, continue to use the login (your e-mail address) and
password you created when you first registered.
Once you have a MyMVCR account, follow the links on the courses page
in order to register for a course. Search the catalog for the course(s)
in which you
desire to register. Make sure that you select the correct course section
when registering. Some courses are offered more than once in a given semester.
Follow the instructions provided to complete the registration process.
Withdrawing
To withdraw from a course, contact withdrawing from MVCR course and request withdrawal. The withdrawal deadline may vary for those taking
courses for CEU's or for academic credit through the University of Illinois
at Springfield.
A withdraw may
be requested during the first half of a course by a student enrolled for
CEU's. A grade of W will be entered in the course. After this time, participants
will be graded based upon the amount of work that they completed.
