Getting Around

Springfield Trolley-An old fashioned, open-air trolley (closed and heated in the winter) with regular stops at the major historic attractions. Tickets are sold at several downtown locations. The Trolley Tours main office is downtown at 522 East Monroe from where you can ride to all the Lincoln historic sites, museums, the Dana-Thomas House and the State Capitol building on the Elijah Iles trolley. For a list of stops, ticketing locations and days of operation of the trolley system, call (800) 545-7600 or (217) 789-2360.

Mass Transit Buses-Public buses are available to most areas of the city. The buses run from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Sunday, except for holidays. For bus schedules and maps, stop by the Springfield Convention & Visitors Bureau at 109 North 7th Street, or call the mass transit office at (217) 522-5531.

Getting to and from the Train Station - Taxis can be used to get from the Amtrak train station to campus. You can also take the bus. The train station is on 3rd and Washington Streets in downtown Springfield (east of the state capital building). Walking southwest to the corner of Jackson and 5th street (to the south of the state capital building), you can catch the red bus, which is the only bus to go into the UIS campus.

Getting to and from Downtown - The easiest way to get to downtown Springfield from campus is to take the red 11 bus.

From downtown, the red 7 bus will take you to the main shopping mall. The green 6 bus can also be used. Be sure to get on a westbound bus, as White Oaks mall is to the west. Locations of other sites can be found online at http://www.springfield-illinois.com/area_guide.htm. The Springfield Trolley is also within walking distance downtown.
