Comments Associated with Question 7

  • So many ideas, help tips and encouragement were made available.
  • I can't wait to get back to start!
  • Overall, I have to begin slowly with implementation, [?] eventually.
  • I learned some great tech tips
  • Good ideas for icebreakers & interaction.
  • I very much appreciated the link sites made available for after the conference. Food service was efficient! Thank you for a SUMMER offering that doesn't require a change in teaching schedule.
  • I really learned a lot in the MERLOT session !!
  • Hold tech displays at a separate time than when course sessions are running.
  • From this and any other professional interaction we will gather ideas. Several good opportunities exist to apply new information / resources.
  • I am a novice - plan to learn more and learn by doing as I go along.
  • The information on course rubrics was very useful ("exemplary courses" session) and I am going to implement it in our institution.
  • Each of the last two years I have gotten large as well as small ideas for my online class
  • My plans include: Developing Exemplary Online. Using Merlot. Blogging to share info.
  • Good conference - I am new to online instruction & learned some good tips to try for fall courses. Provide pads of paper.
  • Not sure what will work.
  • Good applications
  • I gained a few tips about online teaching/learning that I am going to incorporate Fa '03
  • I plan to "tweek" my online courses using ideas I learned here.
  • I am very excited to return to my school & help faculty incorporate what I have learning into their classes.
  • Converting materials to Web Based was excellent and very useful! Instructor was focused on her topic.
  • Will be re-doing many aspects & enhancing my courses!
  • I took away useful information from each session, but mostly from the sessions in which I was able to interact with & discuss my experiences with other colleagues.
  • I learned a lot of useful tidbits to enhance my own understanding & instruction.

Comments Associated with Question 9

  • It is too bad that we were unable to attend more of the sessions. Making the choices was difficult. Excellent program, and staff enthusiasm. Very accomodating. Hospitality. Thank you.
  • Pretty sold on technology before I got here - it's all good :)
  • I have worked in the "on line" environment for 2 years. The first three categories were actually not applicable.
  • None all positive
  • The Not-At-All and Somewhat reponses may seem low, but I'm already sold on online education and have seen a lot of what was covered.
  • Great institute...too little time for all concurrent sessions -

10. How could the institute have better met your needs? (For example, what learning technologies and strategies would you like to see addressed at future FSIs?

  • Great, need a shuttle
  • Technology showcase scheduling at a better time.
  • Shorter time period between sessions.
  • Clearer descriptions of sessions.
  • I was a happy camper, but: Please if we are here next year, provide shuttle service. Dinner on our own was a bit of a challenge for those of us who didn't drive down. Please let us know to drive next time we're here. If the Shuttle time were here, if the Shuttle is no possible? Thanks.
  • More on getting students involved.
  • More sections on Photoshop, Dreamweaver & similar tools.
  • Palm Pilot Tech.
  • This year well all really great. Sessions were all great. UIS location was very nice, too.
  • Walk through an MVCR course so we would know 1. What to expect. 2. Time committment. 3. Workload. so we can schedule these courses appropriately to get maximum value.
  • A session with participants on-line that would mimic the 1st week of an on-line class.
  • I would like to see an expansion in time for hands-on activities. While I understand FSI is an introductory process, perhaps a FSI II could be developed so that we can spend more time with hands on activities so that we have a firm grip on applictions.
  • provide dinner on Tuesday, night!
  • Some advanced courses. There were not enought e-mail labs like you had in Champaign. Move back to Champaign.
  • Sessions on teaching via compressed video. (students in the actual classroom and other students at different sites - all in same class vie video).
  • Didn't have time for showcase
  • More advanced sessions beyond "beginners". 1st night dinner - food was not good. After hourse email access.
  • More advanced material for the veterans - specific roundtables or sessions? Some advanced work to prepare for advanced information (short course?)
  • I am open and looking forward to learning more about all aspects of online teaching / learning.
  • Thanks - all the workshops I attended has increased my desire to continue teaching online courses!
  • Round table or problem solving open times offered more than once so I can ask specific questions.
  • Instructions on the creation of good open ended discussion. We need a "procedure manual"
  • Maybe provide the experience of being an online student in a fictitious course created for the purpose.
  • Filming lectures and creating video's with I-Movie or Moviemaker pro.
  • More hands-on workshops rather than lectures.
  • Strategies to help faculty move to a more "Student-Centered" learning college.
  • More examples of how specific technologies are used in a course situation, not just how to use the technology.
  • More workshops and hands on experience.
  • A second offering of the overview session would have been helpful.
  • Creating templates for multiple courses.
  • More complete presentations - accomplish task in lab!
  • Support services for online faculty. IVC student support centers. Test proctoring. IVC tutor - .
  • Longer sessions in macromedia workshops. Keep it simpler for newer learners.
  • More advanced strategies for WebCT and streaming audio and videos.
  • I am from Missouri, and I really appreciate being allowed to attend. Well worth the registration fee!
  • Video editing
  • As I mentioned earlier I'm afraid I don't even know what I don't know. I just want to do more!
  • For the amount of time that I had, this is great information.....
  • Hands-on Web page design and WebCT course creation (Actually have material with you to begin process)
  • Excellent institute! We're all on overload but look forward to coming back for more - Thanks!
  • More show cases of what faculty ARE doing 15-minute time alottment - NOT a training - Show N Tell. More on Palm.
  • E-portfolios using Blackboard or WebCT. Webquests for community college students. Continue Dreamweaver or ? ?. Photoshop. Blackboard. WebCT. Add Flash, Lectora, PowerPoints for online. Better @ Champaign-Urbana
  • Poster sections of technology: ex: WIMBA, Impatica, Snagit, etc. Down and dirty - this is what x does. 2 - Perhaps handouts from software/CMS providers w/ just the details.
  • Is there an online course for faculty on Blackboard or WebCT - how to use each? Is there a Blackboard or WebCT help desk?
  • Converting proprietary formats to open formats (PowerPoint - HTML/Javascript) (Word-HTML) etc.
  • Invite Houghton Mifflin publishers to present their math materials for on-line teaching (I want to use these when I design my Web courses.)
  • Interactive delivery - javascript dynamic power point, etc. We saw 2 static power point presentations that demonstrated the problems with power point. Making Websites dynamic to accommodate individual students.
  • Perhaps also have some evening social events to make it easier to meet colleagues.
  • Again, more practical sessions. An institution w/ more computer facilities. By doing this everyone is able to participate in the hands on breakouts. Maybe in future conferences morning sessions can focus on theory discussion & afternoon can focus on practical breakouts (photoshop & dreamweaver). Online library catalog - www.merlot.org.
  • (more detailed) 1 - Better described the sessions in the registration info. 2 - Screened the presenters for the depth of their knowledge. [rest removed for privacy reasons.]
  • Possible connections between WebCT & Palm
  • - aspects of online teaching/best practices specifically for English/composition - making online teaching relevant to developmental courses.
  • 1. Do Not assume that everyone knows acronyms. All sessions seemed to start in the middle & I was lost in some of them.
  • Hands-on experience in creating a Web page, example: a faculty home page (web page) - really the basic hands-on stuff using a computer. (Pls. do not overestimate the low degree & level of incompetence in technology some participants).
  • Re: sessions - 1. Suggest an improvement of topical threads in a more consistent manner. 2. Speakers & facilitation line up in prog. book should include their e-mail add.
  • I liked the emphasis on pedagogy & not overemphasis on bells & whistles!
  • Great job as always!
  • - Interacting (practicing) with the new technology. - open Internet access.
